What an exciting finish to a quite wonderful week of trialling.
Only 1 point separated 1st and 2nd places, to claim champion of
the World. Jimmy Cropper from Bacup, Lancashire had the led for
most of the day with his dog Sid, totalling 543 points.
When Aled Owen came to the post, he knew the pressure was on him
to perform. Aleds dog, Bob, is a past Supreme Champion, and was
one of the favorites to take the title. The run that followed was
great, capped with some cool shedding, and a perfect pen
the
question on everyones lips was
Who's won it? In
the end Aled snatched the title from under Jimmys nose by
a whisker, and picked up the winners trophy, and a cheque for £3000.
Serge van der Sweep was in third place with Roy, on a total of
535 points. The course was a demanding one, and only 3 of the continental
challengers managed to finish the course.
A total of around 18,000 people watched the trials over the 4 days,
and S4C, the Welsh TV station had some really excellent coverage
of the event.
